What is NanoPro Black Pearl ceramic coating?
Black Pearl is a NanoPro® ceramic treatment made for black vehicles only. It creates what NanoPro calls a High Density Reflection — an obsidian black appearance with greater depth of colour and higher gloss, permanently.
It is a finish product rather than a protection product. The protection comes from the Stealth Diamond Borograph coating it goes with; Black Pearl is what makes a black car look like wet glass rather than simply clean.
It is applied to the paint as part of a coating package, not on its own.
Does Black Pearl work on dark grey, navy or other dark colours?
No. NanoPro specifies Black Pearl for black vehicles only — the optical effect depends on the paint being genuinely black, so it is not applied to dark grey, navy, dark green or black-looking metallics.
If your car is a very dark metallic rather than true black, tell us at the quote and we will say which it is. Putting it on the wrong colour does not damage anything, it simply does not do what you paid for, and we would rather not take money for that.
Dark cars that are not black still get the full depth and gloss benefit of a Borograph coating — the nano diamonds lift the flake in any paint.
Will Black Pearl hide swirl marks and scratches in black paint?
No, and anything suggesting otherwise is overselling it. NanoPro makes no claim that Black Pearl corrects or conceals defects — swirls and scratches are removed by paint correction before any coating goes on.
This matters more on black than on any other colour, because black paint shows every defect in direct sunlight — and Big Island sunlight is the most unforgiving in the country. The machine correction included in every coating package is what removes them; Black Pearl then goes on top of corrected paint and deepens it.
Coating over uncorrected black paint seals the swirls in permanently. We will not do it.
Is a black car a bad idea on this island?
It is the hardest colour to keep looking good here, and we would rather say that than pretend otherwise — black shows every defect, every water spot and every bit of vog fallout, in the strongest sunlight in the country.
It is also the colour that rewards a proper coating the most. The gap between a neglected black car and a coated, corrected one is larger than on any other colour, in both directions.
If you own a black car here and you are not going to wash it regularly, a coating is doing more work than on almost any other vehicle. If you are, the result is spectacular.
How much does Black Pearl cost?
Black Pearl is applied as part of a Stealth Diamond Borograph or Liquid PPF package, so the package price is the price — from $1,000 for a small vehicle.
It is not sold as a standalone service, because the effect depends entirely on the correction and coating underneath it. On its own it would be a cosmetic layer over whatever defects were already there.
Tell us at the quote that the vehicle is black and we will confirm whether it is a true black that will take the effect.
How long does the effect last?
Permanently, in the same sense the Borograph coating underneath is permanent — it is bonded, not a dressing that wears off.
What changes over time is cleanliness, not the coating. A coated black car that is not washed looks dull because of what is sitting on it, not because the coating has gone. Rinse it and the depth is back.
That is worth knowing on an island with vog fallout, because people sometimes read the film on an unwashed black car as coating failure.
