How much does a full detail cost on the Big Island?
A full detail — inside and out — is $300 for a sedan or coupe, $350 for a crossover, pickup or small SUV, and $400 for a full-size truck, van or large SUV. Exterior-only or interior-only is $200, $225 and $250.
Tour and commercial vans are $700 full, $400 for one side. Those are cash prices; the card price is shown beside every figure.
Those are prices for a vehicle in normal condition. Heavy soiling, mould, pet hair at scale and sand ground into carpet are extra, and we tell you before we start rather than after.
How long does a full detail take?
Three to five hours for most vehicles, longer for large or heavily soiled ones.
We would rather take the time than rush it. A detail that is finished in ninety minutes is a wash with a vacuum, which is a fine thing to buy but is not this.
If you need the vehicle back by a particular time, say so when you book and we will tell you honestly whether it fits.
What is the difference between a detail and a wash?
A wash removes what is on the surface. A detail removes what is bonded into it — and on this island that is the part that matters.
Dried salt sits in the paint’s microtexture and keeps pulling moisture out of humid air. Vog fallout bonds chemically. Red dirt works into trim and carpet. None of that comes off in a wash, and leaving it there is what turns a two-year-old car into a tired-looking one.
A detail includes clay bar decontamination specifically to lift what washing cannot.
Do you come to me, or do I bring the vehicle in?
Either. We are mobile across West and North Hawaiʻi, and we have a shop in Kona for drop-off.
Mobile needs a reasonable place to work, access to the vehicle for a few hours, and an outside tap and power point we can use. We bring every machine, pad, towel and product the job needs.
East side — Hilo, Keaau, Pahoa, Volcano — is coatings only, mobile only. Detailing and correction stay West and North side. See mobile detailing for how it works.
Can you get red dirt out of my carpet and seats?
Usually, and it is one of the most common jobs we get here — but red dirt that has been ground in wet and left to dry repeatedly over years sometimes leaves a permanent tint in light fabric.
We will tell you what we expect to achieve before we start. Hot water extraction gets most of it out of most fabrics. What it cannot do is reverse dye transfer that has already happened.
Deep stain and odour work is priced separately — see the add-ons below.
Will a detail fix swirl marks and scratches?
No. A detail cleans and protects; correcting swirls, oxidation and scratches is machine polishing, which is a separate service.
A deluxe detail includes a hand wax, which fills and hides light defects temporarily and looks very good doing it. It does not remove them.
If you want them actually gone, that is paint correction, and it is worth doing before any coating goes on — a coating locks in whatever is underneath it.
How often should I detail a car on this island?
More often than on the mainland, because vog, marine salt and extreme UV all work on the vehicle at once rather than one at a time.
For most vehicles here, a proper detail twice a year plus regular washing keeps things ahead of the damage. A vehicle parked outside near the coast needs more.
If you would rather it was just handled, the maintenance program is one visit a month with the coating inspected while we are there, and 25% off anything else booked during a visit.
